Mariazell
'Mariazell is a wonderful small and sleepy town' in the Alps.
It lies picturesquely on the western slopes of the Bürgeralpe. Mariazell is the most important pilgrimage of Austria and the former monarchy.

Mechanic Haybox
The Mechanic Haybox in Mariazell is a jewel in the regional carving with a lot of precision engineering and inventiveness.
It is the representation of the life of Christ with scenes from the New Testament. Almost all figures (130 pieces) are moved.
The crib is the 'long decades handmade' of the operator, family Habertheuer, and emerged by their father and grandfather.

Background of the Sanctuary of Mariazell
Mariazell is with its Sanctuary one of the most significant pilgrimage site of Austria. '
The basilica is dedicated to the nativity of Maria.
The St. Lambrecht Magnus Monk brought a carved by on his own statue in the area of Mariazell. When he was already close to the target, suddenly a boulder blocked his way. Then he turned to the Holy Maria for help. At once split the rock and allowed the monk to continue his route. So he crossed to the finish line and placed the statue on a tree stump, which is present in the altar today.
