The Nix Cave in Frankenfels is a typical and very interesting carst cave. This cave is from the Steinschaler Dörfl (english) easily reachable by foot. It is divided into several sections and spaces.

The 25 m long vestibule leads steeply down to the Bears Hall. The Cave is seperated here in two parts:

  • the shorter Geogang
  • the longer Theogang.

Behind the Bear Hall is the spine and after that the 20 m long rubble Hall.

The Hans Neubauer Hall (the largest square in the cave) and the crystal transition then leads to the stalactite rich Theahalle, the most northern point of the cave.

Details of the Nix Cave

Families of quite a different kind can be admired in the Nix Cave. This cave is one of the most beautiful natural sites in Lower Austria. Well paved paths leads around 1 km far into the cave. Impressive are the white sinter deposits, also called "Mountain Milk" that gave the cave´s name: the Latin 'nihilum album' (white nothingness) was popularly to "Nix". Particularly impressive is the so-called "crystal aisle": countless flowstone as crown molding and cones, dainty little columns and water-filled shells enchant both large and small visitors.

There is also a Nix Cave fairy tail, ask for it by the guiding tour
